Columbus Blue Jackets Jersey History

Columbus Blue Jackets Team History

The first season of N.H.L hockey in Columbus commenced in the new millennium. The team’s name comes from the City’s involvement in the American Civil War. The team colours are the representation of America’s colours – red, white, blue.

The road jersey is white and the home jersey is blue. Both jerseys featured two thick stripes across the lower body, one red one blue, there was also a white stripe running along the top of each stripe. Both jerseys also had a red band on the top of the wrist that featured four silver stars. The road jersey also had a top stripe in blue that ran from wrist to wrist and along the shoulders.

The primary logo was a stylized team initial. The letters were made up from a single, red ribbon like band in the shape of the letters C and B. On the inside of the band were silver stars. The letters were wrapped around a hockey stick that had a 3D star on the top. The whole logo had a blue, shadowed effect background.

The secondary logo was a cartoon image of a yellow jacket wasp, wearing a blue civil war coat (the American Union Army Uniform), and wielding a hockey stick. Under the cartoon was the full name of the team. Only the shoulders and head portion of the logo was used.

In 2003, the team introduced an alternate jersey. The key feature of the third jersey was new front logo. The new logo displays the Ohio State Flag wrapping around a large 3D silver star.

A new secondary logo is also introduced. The seal style logo is oval in shape and features a blue Union Army cap in the center with the team’s full name wrapping around it.

The primary road and home jersey would also use this logo as the new shoulder patches on each side.

In 2007, with the release of the Reebok Edge jersey, the team would make minor uniform changes but the Ohio State Flag logo would become the team’s new primary logo. With the changes, the team would no longer have a third jersey.
