NHL HOCKEY JERSEY HISTORY BY TEAM
The hockey jersey: a source of pride, patriotism, and glory.
In no other sport has a jersey been more revered than in the game of hockey.
From the frozen ponds of Canada to the fjords of Norway; you’ll see them. From newborn babies donning their parents’ guilty pleasure, to the old timers who still wear the first jersey they ever bought. Stick handling in the driveway to wristers from the blueline your jersey is always there; to keep you warm and limber, to keep you agile and nimble, to keep you cool and composed; its there.
But these pieces of fabric and twill aren’t just something to keep us warm; it’s something that warms our hearts. Interwoven in the fabric are memories of the Summit Series of ’72 and the Miracle on Ice; the first goal you ever scored, the first game you ever won, the first team you’ve even been apart of. A hockey jersey isn’t just a jersey to us…it is us.
Originally known as a sweater in its infant stages, the jersey has become huge in the way our game is represented. From the start of the first professional hockey league, the jersey has been number one. For over 100 years, the look, style, cut, fabric, stitching and any other thing you can think of has been played with to come up with a perfect piece of armor to go in to battle with. Through trial and error, many of the original NHL teams and all the ones that came later have strived to maintain a jersey that is intimidating, powerful, captivating and patriotic.
Take a step back with the Montreal Canadiens original 1910 jersey and then see the new 2010 Toronto Maple Leafs home and away’s. If we’ve seen them, we’ve got them. And if we don’t….please don’t hesitate to fill us in on what we’ve missed.
Until the puck drops…..Enjoy
