This year, the Detroit Red Wings will wear the Gordie Howe #9 Memorial Patch on their jerseys to honour one of their most celebrated players, Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe. The commemorative “9” patch sits above the logo on the front of the Detroit Red Wings jersey on the left side of the chest. The team will have a white “9” patch on their red home Red Wings jersey and a white on their away jerseys.
Gordie Howe is one of Detroit’s most decorated players. He played for the team for over 25 seasons and helped them win the Stanley Cup four times. He was consistently a high scorer and many of his recorders were only broken by Wayne Gretzky in the 80s. Howe is also known for his longevity in the sports having played in the league for over 5 decades.
