One of America’s top prospects during his teenage years, Zucker was fresh out of the United States National Team Development Program when the Minnesota Wild chose him with the 59th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft. He spent the next two seasons with the University of Denver and earned a NCAA (West) Second Team All-American nod in 2011-12. He began the following season in with the Houston Aeros and was named to the AHL’s All-Rookie Team, but he was also able to hit NHL ice for the first time as well. After splitting 2013-14 between the Wild and the minors, Zucker began to exhibit signs of evolving into an excellent goal producer. After two 20-goal campaigns in three seasons and demonstrating good defensive play in 2016-17 by leading the NHL in plus-minus, he broke out with 33 tallies in 2017-18. His work with charities off the ice was recognized in 2018-19 with the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. Wild fans were disappointed to see him traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins on February 10, 2020, but he did retain the number 16 on his jersey.
