Namestnikov’s arrival in North America saw him enjoy a fine 68-point season with the OHL’s London Knights in 2010-11 as he aimed to have a pro career like his father, Evgeni. A late first-round pick (27th overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2011, he spent one more year in junior as assistant captain for the Knights and went to a league championship before turning pro with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch in 2012-13. His development into a regular NHL player was slow but steady, and he debuted with Tampa Bay late in 2013-14 wearing the number. In 2014-15, he was on the cusp of becoming an everyday part of the roster and skated in the 2015 AHL All-Star Game. He switched his digits to the number 90 and enjoyed 35- and 28-point campaigns before breaking out in 2017-18. While he spent most of that season in Tampa Bay, he hit the 20-goal and 40-mark for the first time before going over to the New York Rangers in a late -season deal on February 26, 2018. With the Rangers last season, he had a knack for scoring on the power play as eight of his 11 tallies came with the man-advantage.
